Rose Parade Rally Day 2 and 3

I will lump these days together.

Day 2.

We wanted to go to Airstream of Los Angeles since we were so close.  Anytime there is an Airstream dealer nearby, I will go!  Luckily there was a trip planned so we went along.  I was able to see a new 2015 30′ Classic and a 2015 Land Yacht (2 of them).  It showed me that I am very happy with the trailer that we have.  The 2015 has some nice features but not enough to warrant a change considering the negatives that I see in it.  The Land Yacht is beautiful!  I would not mind a trailer like that but it is a ‘bit’ pricey.

We came back and after lunch went to get a few parts at OSH, for repairing a sconce lamp in the back, and to Target, to get a warm pair of gloves for Roxie.

That evening after the happy hour:

We had a pot luck.  We were designated for dessert and Roxie made brownies for the group.  Virtually all the food was devoured.  Some of the rally goers went to see some Christmas lights, we opted to go another night and went back to the trailer as it was COLD!

Day 3

We started the day with a breakfast put on by the coordinators of the rally.  It was hot oatmeal with cold ice cream.  A odd combination in initial thought but it was not actually too bad.  I prefered butter and brown sugar.

We had tickets to go view a location where some of the floats were being decorated.  It was a 1.3 mile walk from our spot and we went with Ken and Christine from Colorado.  We got to see 7 different floats being madly decorated:

On the walk back we stopped to have some lunch at Lucky Boy burgers.  It was very good!

That afternoon there were rain showers predicted.  We drove over to another venue where they were decorating floats but the line was HUGE!  We decided not to go.  We got back to the trailer and the rain began in earnest and rained all afternoon into the evening.  This was an evening to eat on your own.  We were able to connect with the Chen’s and have dinner with the whole family!  Here is a picture of me and my ‘twin brother from another mother’ (yes he is in shorts!) and this was a picture after dinner:

We did a bit more shopping after a great dinner.  We were now looking for a warm hat for Roxie (see a trend here?).  We also did a bit of grocery shopping.  After dinner we went to Christmas Tree lane to see the lights.  It was enjoyable but not very grandiose.  Until we got here:

Wow!  A photo cannot do it justice.  One more day with the ‘streamers before the main event!

Rose Parade Rally Day 1

Ever since we went to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta in 2009 we have talked about going to the Rose Parade rally.  We finally decided to do it this year.  There are plans for 29 trailers to be parked in a local school district parking lot.  The parking was to start on Sunday at 10:30am and conclude at 4pm.

We could have driven down on Sunday and make the parking time but we decided to do something that we did before.  We left around 5pm on Saturday and made it to Valencia/Santa Clarita/Stevenson Ranch (take your pick) and spent the night in the Camping World parking lot:

It got down to below 40° that night but our Heater Buddy kept us warm.  We slept in until 9:30!  Unheard of for us.  I guess it was being worn out from all the Christmas.  We stopped at WalMart to get a few things and then headed out.

It is only around 40 miles to Pasadena so the drive was short and uneventful.  About 1/2 of the trailers were there when we showed up and were parked.  Here is a view of some of the trailers:

Urban dry camping at the best.  This evening we got to meet a whole bunch of new people.  It was a good start to the rally.
